PERCEPTION & THE INFORMATION AGE / A PERSONAL FOUNDATION

How do we remain conscious participants?

Human Layer grows out of Paul-Lukas Hertz's ongoing exploration of perception, attention and modern information culture. Before the question of a video platform comes a more personal question: how do we understand what reaches us, and retain meaningful choice about what we create, believe and share?

Paul-Lukas is a media creator, a long-time observer of modern information environments and the developer of the Greyline thinking model. His work brings together interests in perception, media, psychology, narrative systems, attention and the ways information shapes everyday experience.

Attention is part of how we meet the world.

In the author introduction to his Greyline book, he places one question at the centre of this exploration:

How does human perception change in a world where attention itself has increasingly become a contested space?

This question connects his interest in perception psychology, media theory, symbolism, group dynamics, digital information processing and the effects of continual overstimulation. It also connects the personal experience of navigating information with the design of the spaces through which information reaches us.

What becomes visible? What disappears into the background? Which interpretations become habitual? And how much of our participation is chosen, rather than encouraged by systems that reward constant activity?

Greyline: a framework for conscious perception.

Greyline emerged from an attempt to bring these observations into a shared framework. It is intended as a tool for more conscious perception in the information age, open to further exploration and revision.

The work spans writing, media projects, educational formats and interdisciplinary concepts concerning attention, perception, psychological stability, media reality and the impact of information systems on human thought.

This is an author's continuing inquiry, not a claim that one model settles every question about perception or society. Its value must remain open to examination, disagreement and refinement.

From personal inquiry to Human Layer.

Human Layer takes these concerns into the design of a public space. How might a platform make authorship, evidence and responsibility easier to inspect? How could a first publication reach interested people without requiring a long campaign for followers? And how could its economic structure serve the community as it grows?

The project's answer begins with meaningful human choice, transparent production, accessible sources and accountable decisions. Its platform vision explores how these principles might work in practice; Fair Attention & Shared Benefit sets out the founding requirements for discovery, compensation and limits on private enrichment.

AI is part of this inquiry and part of the creative process. Using it raises practical questions about where assistance helps people exercise judgment and where it replaces that judgment. Human Layer makes the human contribution and responsibility visible rather than pretending its own development happened without AI assistance.

Archetypes, music and possible futures.

Several further books are in development. One is Anatomy of the Greys, a hypothesis exploring the Grey as a potential archetype of our future.

Here, the Grey is approached as an image through which possible futures and ideas about humanity can be examined. The project is presented as a hypothesis and an interpretive exploration, not as established evidence about extraterrestrial beings or a prediction of what humans will become.

Another thread connects music with mythopoetic identity through archetypes: the ways people explore who they are through sound, symbolic figures, stories and imagined possibilities.

A Dreamer's Tale: explore through play.

A Dreamer's Tale is the role-playing game that brings these strands together in a playful form. Perception, archetypes, identity and agency become material for shared stories and choices within a fictional world.

The game is in development, with a Kickstarter campaign planned. Fiction and play offer a different mode of exploration from factual argument: they let participants inhabit possibilities without presenting those possibilities as evidence.

These projects share questions and creative interests with Human Layer. They remain distinct works, with their own purposes and development paths.
